Is Looker Studio good enough for business reporting?
Looker Studio is good for lightweight, shareable reports, especially on Google data such as Analytics, Ads and Sheets, and it has no per-user licence cost for the core product. It is weaker for complex data modelling, large datasets and governed metrics, so it works best on top of a clean, pre-modelled source.
Strengths:
- Quick to start and easy to share by link.
- Native connectors for Google products.
- Works well with BigQuery.
Limitations:
- Calculations and joins inside the tool can get messy and slow.
- Version control and testing are limited.
- Some third-party connectors are paid or unreliable.
A good pattern is to do the heavy lifting in a warehouse or SQL view, then use Looker Studio only for presentation. Otherwise logic gets buried in individual reports.
