How do I give clients or franchisees their own dashboard securely?
Use a BI setup that supports row-level security or per-tenant filtering, ideally enforced in the database, so each external user sees only their own data. Test thoroughly, and confirm licensing covers external users, since that often differs from internal rules.
Options:
- Separate dashboards per client, simple but laborious to maintain.
- One dashboard with user-based filters or signed embedding tokens.
- A separate dataset per client for strict isolation.
Safeguards:
- Do not rely on hidden front-end filters alone.
- Test by trying to alter URL parameters.
- Log access.
- Check the privacy implications if personal data is involved.
Plan for how new clients are onboarded so permissions are set up consistently.
