How does Snowflake pricing work in general terms?
Snowflake generally charges separately for storage and for compute. Compute is consumed when virtual warehouses run queries, and you pay for the time they are active, while storage is charged by the amount of data kept. Exact rates and plans vary and change, so check current terms before committing.
Key ideas:
- Warehouses can be sized up or down and can suspend automatically when idle, which keeps costs down.
- Heavy dashboards that refresh often on a large warehouse can become costly if not managed.
- Separate warehouses for loading and for reporting prevent one workload slowing the other.
For a small company, the main risk is leaving compute running unnecessarily or letting many users refresh heavy queries. Set auto-suspend, resource monitors and sensible refresh schedules.
