How do I pull Shopify data into a data warehouse?
Use Shopify's API or a connector to extract orders, line items, customers, products, refunds and transactions on a schedule, then load them into a warehouse such as BigQuery. Model them into clean sales tables, and reconcile them against payouts and your accounting system.
Tips:
- Pull orders with line-level detail, not only order totals.
- Capture refunds, discounts, shipping and taxes as separate fields.
- Decide how to treat test orders, cancelled orders and draft orders.
- Keep timestamps and time zones consistent, as Shopify store time zones can cause date mismatches.
Customer data is personal information, so store it with appropriate access controls and respect privacy law such as POPIA or GDPR.
