What is the difference between batch and real-time data integration?

Batch integration moves data on a schedule, such as nightly or hourly, while real-time or streaming integration moves changes continuously within seconds. Batch is simpler and cheaper and fits most reporting, while real-time suits cases like fraud detection or live operations.

Batch pros: easier to build, test and recover, lower cost, good for finance and sales reporting.

Real-time pros: immediate visibility, but more infrastructure, more failure modes and typically higher cost.

Many businesses think they need real-time when the decisions are made daily or weekly. Ask what action would change if the data were fresher. A middle path is frequent micro-batches for a few operational tables, with daily loads for everything else.
