Should staff and payroll data be included in company dashboards?
Only where there is a clear need, and with tighter access than for general reports. Staff and payroll data is personal and often sensitive, so show aggregates where possible and restrict individual-level views to the few people who need them, such as HR or finance leads.
Staff data is covered by privacy laws too, and employees have rights. Consider the purpose of each metric and whether you can use totals or averages by team instead of named individuals. Small groups can accidentally reveal individuals, so avoid showing figures for teams of one or two.
Log access to these views and review who has it regularly. Rules differ by country and sector, so check how this applies to you with a qualified adviser.
