What questions should I ask a data consultancy before signing?
Ask who will do the work, how scope and price are fixed, who owns the code, data and dashboards, where data will be stored, how privacy is handled, what happens when the engagement ends, and how they test accuracy. Request answers in writing within the proposal.
Useful questions include:
- What exactly will I have at the end, and when?
- What do you need from my team?
- Which tools will you use and what are their ongoing costs?
- How do you check the numbers are right?
- Can another team maintain this without you?
- How do you treat personal data and use of AI tools?
Clear, specific answers are a good sign. Vague ones suggest the same vagueness in delivery.
