What is a good first project to prove the value of analytics?
Pick a small project with a clear owner, visible pain and measurable benefit, such as automating a weekly sales or stock report, or building a profitability view by product or customer. Deliver in a few weeks so the value is evident before larger commitments.
Good first projects share traits:
- A manager who needs the answer and will use it
- Data from only a few sources
- A before-and-after comparison, for example hours saved
- Low risk if imperfect
Use the project to establish metric definitions and build trust that later work can build on. Share the result widely and honestly, including what did not work, so later projects start with credibility.
