How do I measure production schedule adherence and on-time production?
Schedule adherence is the percentage of planned production orders completed in the planned quantity within the planned time window. Divide orders completed as scheduled by total orders scheduled for the period, then multiply by 100.
It matters because late or short production breaks delivery promises and drives expediting and overtime costs.
Commonly misread:
- Counting an order as on time when it finished on time but short in quantity.
- Letting the schedule be quietly rewritten, so plans always appear to be met. Measure against the schedule frozen at a set time.
- Ignoring the reason for misses, such as material shortages, breakdowns, or planning errors.
Track it with reason codes and compare to on-time-in-full delivery to customers, as good production adherence does not guarantee good delivery.
