What is the difference between a metric, a dimension and a measure?
A metric or measure is a number you calculate, such as revenue or order count. A dimension is a category you group or filter by, such as product, region or month. Dashboards combine them, for example revenue by region by month.
Terminology varies slightly between tools. Some use measure for the raw aggregation, such as a sum of amounts, and metric for the business-defined figure, such as gross margin percentage.
What matters is that each metric has a written definition covering inclusion rules, date basis and calculation, and that it is implemented once. Dimensions should have consistent, clean values, since misspelt categories split totals across duplicate groups.
