What does it take to deploy a forecasting model into daily operations?
Deployment means the model runs automatically on fresh data, writes its forecasts somewhere people use them, and has an owner. You need reliable data feeds, a schedule, stored outputs, error handling, and a fallback if it fails. A model in a notebook that someone runs by hand is not deployed.
Core pieces:
- Automated data pipeline with checks for missing or odd values.
- Scheduled training and forecasting.
- Outputs delivered to a dashboard, spreadsheet or planning system.
- Version records of models and results.
- Monitoring and alerts.
- Documentation so someone else can run it.
Plan for the people side too: who reviews the forecast, who can override it, and what happens when they disagree with it.
