How much does it cost to hire an in-house data analyst?
Cost varies widely by country and seniority, but you should budget for salary, employer taxes and benefits, software, training and management time, which together often add a substantial amount on top of base pay. A single analyst also rarely covers data engineering, so factor in extra support.
Beyond salary, consider:
- Recruitment time, which can take months for good candidates
- Software licences and cloud costs
- Onboarding before the person is productive
- Replacement cost if they leave, taking knowledge with them
For many smaller companies, a fixed-scope outsourced build plus part-time support costs less than a full-time hire in the first year, while a hire can win once work is continuous. Compare total cost, not salary alone.
