Do AI vendors train their models on the data I send them?
It depends on the vendor, the product tier and your settings. Some consumer services may use inputs to improve models unless you opt out, while many business and API offerings state they do not train on customer data by default. Read the current terms and data processing agreement before sending anything sensitive.
Check:
- Whether inputs and outputs are retained, and for how long.
- Whether humans may review conversations.
- Where data is processed and stored.
- Whether there is a signed data processing agreement.
- How to delete data.
Terms change, so do not rely on memory or assumptions. If the terms are unclear, treat the tool as public and share nothing confidential or personal.
